How to be poised particularly during these challenging times that we have all come to witness and experience following the onset of COVID-19 in 2020 has had many of us reeling in complete shock and frustration with the sudden standstill that ensued. Not to mention the effect this had (and continues to have for some of us) on our commitments – whether that’d be social events, family gathering, or work-related meetings. Even our religious gym workout routines, yoga (or hot yoga – whichever you prefer) HIIT, LBT (Legs, Bums & Tums) and spin classes were suddenly turned upside down. But with everything now starting to resume back to normal depending on where you are, we look at how the modern, chic and elegant woman is able to remain poised whilst slowly adjusting back to life post lockdown.
Have a plan
If you’ve lost your job following the pandemic or are just wanting to revamp your life (2020 has not been a great year for many of us), then get started right away on planning your exit strategy to help get you out of your current situation to your ideal situation. Even the simple act of jotting things down – bullet points, keywords, doodling (you get the idea) - if you’re not a massive fan of brainstorming or writing your ideas down on paper - will set you off in the right direction. Have a vision in your mind of where you see yourself and get planning and involve other people by networking. Learning to focus on solutions and possibilities rather than problems is one of the key ways for on how to be poised and a high-value woman who is confident in herself.
Focus on yourself
Sometimes we can become so consumed with fear and worry about our lives that this often leads us neglecting our own passions and interests. A poised and elegant woman doesn’t just focus her time and energy of beautifying herself and making herself aesthetically-pleasing but rather she enriches her mind, body and soul with hobbies, culture and pastimes that make her, her – whether that'd be playing the piano, learning a new language, cooking in the kitchen, volunteering at a local homeless shelter or animal shelter, painting, gardening, sewing, reading books, watching educational content, the list is endless. if you're struggling on how to be poised, dedicate some me-time each day to focus on your own passions and interests because that is what a poised woman does. If you forget this step, always think back to what your grandmother did when you were younger. Each day they always were able to take care of the home, the family, precious mealtimes whilst also having time to do what they loved and enjoyed. And the good news is, you can too.
Prioritise your time
Following on from Step Two, in order for you to be on top of your game and stay poised you must be able to prioritise your time. If you are serious about wanting to make changes to your life, then you need to start forming some solid habits into your daily life to help get you from where you are to where you want to be. This could be something as simple as waking up earlier and being able to have that hearty breakfast (preferably before midday) and have a clear mind set for the day rather than rushing around and not being prepared. Being organised and on top of your schedule will help you spot opportunities as you’ll be more inclined to see how you can improve your life further as Oprah Winfrey so rightfully advocates.
“I believe luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn’t been prepared when the opportunity came along, you wouldn’t have been lucky.” - Oprah Winfrey
